Cape Cross Colt Stays Perfect In the Eyrefield
Updated: October 25, 2015 at 5:10 pm
Off the mark in straightforward fashion over seven furlongs at Cork just eight days ago, Moonlight Magic benefitted from this extra quarter mile to open his black-type account and display exciting potential for next year’s Classics. Settled with one behind early, the bay was ridden on the home turn and responded to wear down the long-time leader Landofhopeandglory passing the furlong pole before drawing away on the run to the line. “I thought he won with bundles up his sleeve at Cork and was far from tuned up,” jockey Kevin Manning commented. “I knew he would improve hand-over-fist and I think he’s a real nice horse in the making. I had loads of horse underneath me on the turn and he won going away.” Trainer Jim Bolger added, “He’s a good horse. He was a little bit backward and just made it this year. I’d say he’ll improve a lot over the winter and hopefully he’ll be back here for the Derrinstown Derby Trial. He did it very well the first day, but when he hit the front he idled.”
